Updating Personal Information

1. Email

Students can change their personal email on file by going to the MyCSUSM portal. 

On the "Home" page under the "Personal Information" tab, click on to the "Email Addresses" hyperlink. 

On the email address page, the personal or "home" email should be editable. There you can input the new email address that you would like to university to have on file. Then, click the "Save" button.

2. Phone Number

Students can change and add the phone numbers the university has on file by going to the MyCSUSM portal.

From the home page, navigate to the "Personal Information" tab and click on the "Phone Numbers" hyperlink.

Once on the phone number page, the phone number(s) present can be changed or an additional number can be added using the "Add a Phone Number" button. Simply type in the new number and click the "Save" button.

3. Address

Students can change their mailing address on file by going to the MyCSUSM portal. 

On the "Home" page under the "Personal Information" tab, click on to the "Mailing Addresses" hyperlink. 

On the Mailing Address page, the "mailing" or "home" address should be editable by clicking on the pencil icon on the far right side. There you can input the new address that you would like to university to have on file. Additionally, you can add an additional address by clicking "Add a new address." Then, make sure to click the "Save" button.

4. Preferred Name Change

CSUSM recognizes students may identify themselves by a name other than their legal name. Acknowledging this, students may have their first name changed to a preferred name that better reflects their identity.

  • Transcripts
  • Enrollment Verification
  • Financial Aid & Scholarship Documents
  • Payroll (student employees)
  • Any legal document produced by the University

Preferred Name

  • Class Rosters
  • CSUSM Student ID Card*
  • CSUSM Email Display Name
  • MyCSUSM Student Center
  • Official email communications

To change your preferred name:

  1. Go to MyCSUSM and navigate to the Student Center. Click on Names under the Personal Information section
  2. For a preferred name (which will appear in the places listed on the page above), select Preferred. Then click on the pencil on the right hand side to go to the name editing page.                                                                                 
  3. Once on the name editing page, you may type in a different preferred first name and click Save.
